Make the desired number of double stitches and form a long picot. This can be as long as you want to make it according to the size of thread you use. Make one, two or three double stitches after the long picot. |

Hook the tip of the long picot and pull up the ring thread on the hand and pass the shuttle through. This is just like a normal join, but you are joining to the tip of the long picot.

Snug up the join and continue making double stitches. The above picture shows you what it should look like. You may have to fiddle with sliding the two halves of the long picot to get them uniform.
